About Reiki healing

Reiki started in Japan and spread to the West starting with the U.S. in the 1970s. It has been taught and practised in the U.K. for several decades. Reiki can be used for helping with physical ailments, and emotional and psychological issues:

  • Physical

Helping to strengthen the body on a deep cellular level, Reiki can promote self-repair and self-healing. It can help rebalance the central nervous system through the facilitation of deep relaxation which restores the body's ability to heal.

  • Emotional and psychological

Reiki can be used to help calm and clear the mind; dissipate 'stuck and blocked' emotions; heal trauma and grief; and promote deeper, undisturbed sleep.

What to expect from your Reiki session

Reiki is a gentle, non-intrusive, and non-invasive therapy, transmitted through the practitioner's hands. You can choose whether the hands make light contact with your body or no contact at all (where hands will be placed above the body); but either method works well.

Before your Reiki treatment, you will be asked to complete a consent form and have a brief, confidential consultation (at your discretion) to establish what issues you would like to be addressed throughout your session.

You remain fully clothed throughout the treatment but remove your shoes. You have the choice of whether to lie on the treatment couch or be seated in a comfortable chair.

The healing treatment usually starts with the head and progresses down the length of the whole body.

What will you experience during your session

People experience Reiki differently, but many feel a vibration from the practitioner's hands,

tingling in the body and limbs, and sensations of warmth and coolness. Some people do not feel anything at all, but this does not mean the treatment is not working. During some sessions, clients fall asleep for a short time which indicates the healing is working to relax and soothe on a deep level.

After the session, people may need to drink a lot of water and rest for a period of time. This is to assimilate the healing and rebalance after treatment. In the days and weeks post-treatment, many people experience heightened sense of wellbeing, clarity of thought and the ability to make decisions more easily. Some experience a significant reduction in pain they may have been experiencing and many report feeling relaxed at a core level.

"Helen's healing work is quite remarkable! After one session with her my aching joints were eased and I felt calm and relaxed. Helen has also sent me distance Reiki while I was going through a period of extreme stress, I woke up the next morning feeling optimistic and hopeful, my anxiety had melted away during the night."

"I had heard great things about Reiki healing from friends and colleagues but had never had a treatment myself. Before my session with Helen, I was slightly sceptical, but the experience was so relaxing and felt so safe, that I nearly fell asleep during the healing process. I felt the benefits for weeks after my treatment, experiencing a sense of deep wholeness, fulfilment and relaxation on a cellular level."

" I really enjoyed my Reiki session with Helen, I'd never received Reiki before and was very curious .I found it was very relaxing and later that day I felt very calm and de-stressed. Helen made me feel very comfortable and I definitely want to go again."
